Research Backgrounds

Function:

Tyrosine-protein phosphatase which regulates cell motility proliferation and muscle-response to insulin. In muscles and under catabolic conditions, dephosphorylates IRS1 leading to its degradation and muscle atrophy. Negatively regulates PI3K-AKT pathway activation.

Subcellular Location:

Cell junction>Focal adhesion. Cell membrane>Peripheral membrane protein>Cytoplasmic side.
Note: Detected at the end of actin stress fibers. Detected in cytoplasmic punctate bodies (PubMed:22019427).

Extracellular region or secreted Cytosol Plasma membrane Cytoskeleton Lysosome Endosome Peroxisome ER Golgi apparatus Nucleus Mitochondrion Manual annotation Automatic computational assertionSubcellular location
Tissue Specificity:

Detected in heart, kidney, brain, thymus, spleen, liver, placenta, lung, skeletal muscle and small intestine.

Subunit Structure:

Interacts with AXL. Interacts with SYK; leading to its phosphorylation.

Family&Domains:

Belongs to the PTEN phosphatase protein family.
