Research Backgrounds

Function:

Required for brain and eye development. Promotes the disassembly of phosphorylated vimentin intermediate filaments (IF) during mitosis and may play a role in the trafficking and distribution of IF proteins and other cellular factors to daughter cells during progenitor cell division. Required for survival, renewal and mitogen-stimulated proliferation of neural progenitor cells (By similarity).

PTMs:

Constitutively phosphorylated. This increases during mitosis when the cytoplasmic intermediate filament network is reorganized (By similarity).

Tissue Specificity:

CNS stem cells.

Family&Domains:

Belongs to the intermediate filament family.

(A) Immunofluorescence staining of neonatal neural stem cells (Nestin+/ BrdU+) in the SVZ on day 7 after tMCAO. (B) The quantification results showed that the mice belonging to the tMCAO + saline group had more Nestin+/BrdU+ cells in the SVZ on day 7 after tMCAO than the mice belonging to the sham + saline group, and RO27-3225 strengthened this increase (*p < 0.05 vs. the corresponding sham group; #p < 0.05 vs. the tMCAO + RO27-3225 group; n = 6/group). The data are shown as the means ± SDs.
